5:30-7P Humboldt County is in the planning process of developing our Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS). This document, developed every five years is a framework to grow a diverse and thriving economy, outline a plan for regional resilience, and improve the quality of life for everyone in Humboldt. We are coming to YOUR town to facilitate a community discussion and hear your insights on the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats facing our County. To ensure the Humboldt’s CEDS reflects the needs of all community members, the Economic Development Division will host a series of CEDS Public Engagement Roadshows throughout Humboldt County.
TRANSFORMATIONS: A HEALING ART AND MOVEMENT WORKSHOP
Presented by the Eureka Women’s Club: The Humboldt Domestic Violence Services and North Coast Rape Crisis Team invite you to a journey of self-discovery and expression through art, dance, poetry, breath, and meditation, facilitated by Shullie Steinfeld, MA in Expressive Arts Therapy! No prior experience needed. This is a two-day workshop: September 17th and 18th. Art supplies and food will be provided; we encourage you to bring anything that will help you to comfortably sit and lay down on the floor. (Register by 9/9)
4-9P Join FOLC for a pre-full moon hike to King Peak, highest point in King Range National Conservation Area and one of the tallest coastal peaks in the Lower 48 States. Meet at the BLM office in Whitethorn at 4pm to caravan to Lightning Trailhead (4WD recommended). We will then summit the peak (4088 ft), enjoy sunset, and start our journey back under the light of the rising moon. This 4.8 mile round trip hike includes nearly 2000 ft of elevation gain and will be strenuous for some. Returning in the moonlight presents additional risks, a factor that should be considered before embarking on this hike. Space is limited and RSVP is required.

This FREE all-ages event will feature farm tours, hay rides, refreshments and samples of produce grown at the farm. FROLIC IN THE GLEN – BBQ POTLUCK PICNIC
It’s a full day’s schedule of games, raffles, and entertainment featuring The Academy Of Irish Dance performing at 11 am. Potluck luncheon will be from 11:30 am. to 12:30 pm. 10A-2P Looking to explore nature AND HAVE FUN?! Come join us at Big Trees Day Use Area in Humboldt Redwoods State Park. There will be several naturalists on hand to help you explore critters in the creek, wildlife tracks, native plants, and more! Download the free iNaturalist app to your phone before you arrive, so that you can help biologists with a species inventory of the park! If you have the iNat app downloaded, we’ll teach you how to use it! This event is fun and educational for all ages.
10-12:30P At the Mad River Hatchery. Use reflection, nature activities and writing exercises to create. For new and experienced poets and creative writers, and anyone who loves nature and words. Bring water and a snack, a blanket and/or seat, pen/pencil and paper. Dress for the outdoors

HALVORSEN PARK (EAST SIDE) CLEAN UP
11A-1P Join the Northcoast Environmental Center for a cleanup of the Eastern side of Halvorsen park! This event is part of Coastal Cleanup Month 2022, which is coordinated by the NEC. Volunteers who attend this event will be entered into our weekly prize raffle for a chance to win fun items from local businesses. Join local climate adaptation scientists, an environmental interpretive specialist, and Northcoast Regional Land Trust supporters on a guided interpretive paddle in kayaks through Freshwater Slough & Humboldt Bay. Learn about the impacts of sea level rise on our local agricultural lands, critical infrastructure, and habitat. This 5-mile paddle requires sustained movement. All boats and gear provided. Dress warmly, wear a hat, and bring water and a snack. Ages 12 and up – families encouraged! 2P – Create air-dry clay sculptures inspired by the Ingrid Nickelsen’s Trust Juror’s Choice Award winner, Annakatrin Burnham’s ceramic sculpture. Participants will tour the exhibitions and get inspiration for the day’s project. After the tour, gather in the youth classroom to create with assistance and guidance from Genevieve Kjesbu, art educator. The “field,” Ferndale’s National Historic Landmark Commercial District, will open for vehicle placement at 7am. Field placement ends at 10am, when judging begins. Judging will conclude at noon with trophy presentations beginning after 2pm. The Concours will conclude with the presentation of the “Best-of-Show” award at about 4pm. A meatloaf and baked potato dinner will follow at the Ferndale Community Center.
9-11A Redwood Region Audubon Society will offer a free guided birding tour at Humboldt Bay National Wildlife Refuge. ARCATA OUT OF THE DARKNESS COMMUNITY WALK
10A-12P The Arcata Out of the Darkness Community Walk is a journey of remembrance, hope, and support. It unites our communities and provides an opportunity to acknowledge the ways in which suicide and mental health conditions have affected our lives and the lives of those we love and care about. The event will begin and end on the Arcata Plaza, and we will walk together throughout Arcata. This event is hosted by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

BEAUTY FOR ASHES – A TRIBUTE TO HEROES
6-7P Ballet Emmaus is the resident ballet company of Trinity Ballet Academy. This original ballet created by the director Greta Leverett, commemorates the 21st anniversary of 9/11, honoring those who lost their lives that fateful day in 2001. The best of all possible worlds coming together at the Humboldt UU Fellowship. For 4 weeks, we will be hosting two parallel activities for folks interested in the healing and creative arts. Come for an outdoor, gentle yoga practice for adults. A sweet, Nature-infused experience designed to reset your nervous system and replenish you deeply. At the same time, in our CARE building, we will be offering another Magic Monday session for our artists aged 5-12. More than 50 public and private college, university, trade schools, career pathways, military recruiters will be in-person to provide information. It’s an opportunity for families to compare different educational options in a one-stop-shop. Time-sensitive financial aid workshops are also scheduled.
