Fortuna High School celebrates their 2022 grads, the Arcata Playhouse is having a trash-fashion show… And, in TRUE Humboldt County style, the Kinetic Sculpture Race Grand Championship is back and ready to get you busting a laugh at one of our very favorite… and very silly local traditions.

SATURDAY MAY 28TH
KINETIC GRAND CHAMPIONSHIP DAY ONE
10A, The Kinetic Grand Championship is a 3-day, 42-mile bicycle race over land, sand, mud and water. Many refer to the Kinetic Grand Championship as the “Triathlon of the Art World”.
Day 1 starts on the Plaza in Arcata, California at the noon whistle every Memorial Day weekend. The racers take off to the Manila dunes, where they race through miles of sand to the great and inevitable “Deadman’s Drop”. Then on to Eureka’s downtown gazebo.

11A-5P, Head to Whitehorn for this meet-the-farmer event where attendees can connect with 11 local cannabis farmers. Held at the Whitethorn Construction Campus, participants can enjoy food from Caffe Dulce, listen to live music, meet educational exhibitors, shop with local makers and vegetable vendors, stroll over to Whitethorn Winery for a tasting, and take a nature walk through the trails alongside Sanctuary Forest. SUNDAY MAY 29TH & BEYOND…
KINETIC GRAND CHAMPIONSHIP DAY TWO/THREE
9A,
Day 2: Sunday starts in Eureka at the waterfront on the Humboldt Bay, where brave Kinetic Pilots race their crafts through the water (most float). Then back on land where kinetic sculptures go up Hookton Hill, a 1 mile-7% incline and decline. Day 2 ends with a private campout for racers and volunteers only.
Day 3: Memorial Monday starts from the private party at Crab Park where they will head over land to cross the Eel River just outside of Fernbridge. Watch the Racers cross the finish line on Ferndale’s historic Mainstreet, where they will park for a while before heading up to the Final Awards Dinner.

Memorial Day weekend is a wonderful time for Tourism and Travel.. which means our beaches, forests and roadways can be extra busy this time of year! Shelter Cove is looking for trailhead hosts to interact with the public, Cutten is doing a flash-trash clean up, and Soot Sprite Farms is doing a Garden workday. Just to name a few!
