The first days of Summer are officially here and there’s a lot going on in Humboldt County. The Arkley Center for the Performing Arts is hosting a ‘Dance Circus’ and Ferndale gathers for a community Pride March on Sunday…. not to mention that two of our favorite annual events will roll out under the magnificent SUN for this big, event filled weekend!
The Humboldt County Fair is “Bringing Back the Fun” at Redwood Acres in Eureka AND, the well-attended celebration of coastal cuisine, Oyster Fest will be taking over Arcata. Prepare your pallet because this busy weekend offers countless opportunities to satisfy and savor your wild side!
SPECIAL EVENTS THIS WEEKEND…
FRIDAY JUNE 24TH
REDWOOD ACRES FAIR
12N-12M, This year’s theme is “Bringing Back the Fun”, and fun shall be had by all -with exhibitions like a circus with acrobats and motorcycle tricks, a wild animal exhibit, ventriloquist, strolling comedians, live music, truck pulls, stock car races, kite flyers, axe throwing, dunk tank, food vendors and more!

CAFE ARISTES (CRAFT FAIR)
4:30-8:30P, Join local artists and makers for a small craft fair located inside Old Town Coffee and Chocolates. Cafe Artistes is a small artist collective started and maintained by the baristas of OTCC. We get together monthly and offer tabling for an additional 3-4 guest artists. OYSTER FEST KICKOFF CELEBRATION
6-9P, Time to celebrate oysters by meeting local oyster farmers and enjoying the party under Arcata’s big tip circus tent! This is the official kick-off to a full weekend of celebrating local aquaculture, beverages, and food, enjoy presentations and live music, and hear who the 2022 winners of the Best Oyster contest are!
SATURDAY JUNE 25TH
‘SEABIRDING’ BY KAYAK ADVENTURE
9A-12N, Now this is what we call, an Early Bird Special! A truly exciting opportunity to get out on the water while viewing local seabirds from a kayak. In this guided tour you will ply the waters of Trinidad Bay with professional kayak guides seeking out Marbled Murrelets, Pigeon Guillemots, Common Murres, Black Oystercatchers and more. GLOBAL EARTH EXCHANGE
10A-12N, As part of Radical Joy for Hard Times’ Global Earth Exchange, they will gather at Mad River Hatchery to Honor Our Love and Pain for the World. This will be equal parts sharing in circle, solo time on land, a simple grief ritual, and creating ecoart together. This is a FREE simple earth-based gathering and everyone is welcome.
POWERMOVES: UNLEARN TOXIC PATTERNS
10A-3:30P, Explore group power dynamics, unlearn toxic patterns, and move toward healthy, joyful empowerment for ourselves and our communities. Join the workshop which is held at North Coast Repertory Theatre in Eureka. 707-442-6278
32ND ANNUAL OYSTER FESTIVAL ‘UNLEASHED’
10A-5P, The Creamery Field on 8th Street is home to the finale event for Oyster Festival 2022: a fun-in-the-summer-sun event featuring local oyster, music, beverages, art, kids zone, and great community-centered good times! Please see the link in the title for event times and specifics.

PARTY GAME NIGHT: END OF THE CURRENT APOCOLYPSE
12N-10P, Calling all Gamers over to the Dow’s Prairie Grange for a day and night filled with board games, several sessions of DnD, Magic the Gathering, Warhammer, a Cosplay contest, door prizes, raffle tickets for sale for awesome gaming and nerd related raffle prizes, and lunch dinner and snacks will be available for purchase. It’s FREE to come play. If you’ve always wanted to try DnD, but never had the chance to play, or if you’re an experienced player who just wants to meet some new friends and have a good time this is a great opportunity.
DANCE CIRCUS
6-9P, Join No Limits Dance Academy for its 22nd annual spring production – Dance Circus! With dancing elephants, tightrope walkers, fire dancers, trick riders, popcorn, ringmasters, bears and much, much more! This event includes award winning dancers and choreography in the styles of tap, jazz, hip hop, ballet, pointe and contemporary with dancers 3 and up. This show is at Arkley Center For The Performing Arts and is sure to be fun for the whole family to enjoy.
SUNDAY JUNE 26TH & BEYOND…
FERNDALE PRIDE MARCH
12N, Gather on the lawn outside of the Ferndale City Hall – march down Main St. ending at Firemen’s Park for a brown bag lunch community picnic. Family friendly, all ages.

DANCE CIRCUS

2:30-5P, The Environmental Protection Information Center( EPIC) will celebrate Summer in the Sequoia Park Zoo picninc grounds with food, music and the presentation of the Yerba Buena Award. All are welcome to join!
LIVE MUSIC/ETC
The Arcata Theatre Lounge is featuring several classic cinema throwbacks on the big screen, Richard’s Goat is bringing in another Great Indie act on Saturday feat. The Lodestones, Blackplate, and Vulture Feather, and the Blue Lake Casino celebrates 20 years in business with music and snacks on Friday!
