It’s Father’s Day Weekend and Humboldt County has so many great things for you all to enjoy as a family! The Mateel is excited to bring back the 45th Annual Summer Arts Festival after a two year hiatus – The Garberville Rodeo has two days of exciting events like bull-riding and the Junior Rodeo and there’s more than one Pancake breakfast that will fill you up, while supporting a great cause.

SPECIAL EVENTS THIS WEEKEND…
FRIDAY JUNE 17TH
WILLOW CREEK COMMUNITY EMERGENCY RESPONSE (CERT) TRAINING
9A, Were you left feeling frustrated or not knowing how to help during the recent wildfires and winter storms? This three day course will prepare and certify you to respond to and assist during county emergencies and disasters. This Basic CERT Training consists of 23 hours of classwork over three days, (9A-5P Fri/Sat/Sun) Participants must attend all three days of instruction to become certified. Register for free here! Classes will be held at the Willow Creek Community Services District 135 Willow Road in Willow Creek.
DRIVE BY CHILI-DOG DINNER
5-7P, Dows Prairie Grange #505 will be kicking off summer with their next Drive-By Chili Dog Dinner. Leave the cooking to us and enjoy a ¼ lbs hot dog, a serving of chili on the side, baked beans, bag of chips, and a cup of ice cream for dessert. Cost is a donation of $10. RODEO IN THE REDWOODS (GARBERVILLE/SOHUM)
6P, Come down to Southern Humboldt Community Park for a bull riding competition and more fun rodeo events to kick off this fun annual SoHum event. Bull-riding starts at 6P, Bull-o-rama is at 7P.

TRINIDAD GUIDED TIDEPOOL EXPLORATION

PLANT & SEED EXCHANGE (HUMBOLDT LIBRARY)
10A-12N, Is your garden overflowing and you have more plants than you can handle? Are you looking for something new to plant in your yard? Swing by the Humboldt County Library in Eureka and check out the Plant and Seed exchange in our parking lot! Bring whatever extra plants, starts, or seeds you have and take home something new! Please label your plants (we will have labeling materials on hand at the event, in case you forget) and please no invasive species.
SUMMER IN THE REDWOODS: A CELEBRATION IN CA STATE PARKS
11A-3P, Join California State Parks, the National Park Service, Save the Redwoods League, and community partners for a day-long celebration of inclusion and representation in parks. Activities include multi-lingual interpretive programs, land acknowledgement of Indigenous people, a resource fair, food, music, and more!(This event doesn’t provide shuttle services; however, the city bus #20 leaves at 10 AM from Arcata and arrives at 11 AM at Prairie Creek Road. INTRODUCTION TO PERMACULTURE DESIGN
2-5P, This lecture and tour will cover the basic principles behind permaculture design and show you real examples of permaculture in practice. Learn about the ecological design process so that you can do more with less, grow a diverse array of food, support an abundance of wildlife, make holistic decisions for your property and take advantage of all available resources. JUNETEENTH CELEBRATION ON THE PLAZA
12N-7P, All day, community wide, event celebrating freedom, diversity and community. Party with your Black community enjoy food, arts, culture, live music, vendors & a youth zone! This year’s theme will be honoring Black fathers and the many forms they show up in, within our communities! This holiday is important and empowering for the Black communities all over the united states, but especially for Humboldt County as we work to create safe spaces and representation within the community!
