3-5P Heart’s Leap Wines of Arcata has their tasting room at Almquist Lumber Company, but you don’t have to drive to Arcata to taste their wines. Winemaker Kevin will be pouring a selection of their wines at the Eureka Co-op. Open to the public, must be 21 years of age to participate.
4-8P This Arts! Arcata were welcoming the coming of Spring in the best way possible. The Arcata Plaza is officially welcoming three new businesses to the community! Bell and Hook, JuJubees, and Peaches and Pearls will all be opening their doors to welcome our wonderful community. To celebrate Arcata Main Street will be closing off part of H Street on the Plaza to throw a party! On April 14th there will be something for everyone down on the Plaza! Tanya the TeaFairy will be bringing her bubble machine and doing balloon sculptures and facing painting for all the children to enjoy while mom and dad browse through JuJuBees – Arcata’s newest consignment shop specifically for kids. Hooked and Kettle Corn will be serving up yummy treats for all to enjoy while strolling downtown. Stop into Bell & Hook and check out all the men’s gifts on offer before letting loose at the Peaches and Pearls Drag show! Out on H Street, you can find Yemay’s Apothecary and The Bismuth Wizard keeping the vibrations high with herbal remedies and supplements and gorgeous lab-grown Bismuth crystals. Off the Plaza, Umpqua Bank will be showcasing work from the Sunday Morning Painting Group. The Sanctuary will be hosting artwork from Cal Poly Humboldt graduating artists. This exhibition highlights 10 Emerging Artists and will feature works from; Melodie Sidhu, Bridget Langholz, Melissa Lefebvre, Madeleine Fisher, Alisa Ibyadullin, Sean Grimes, Catalina Carlton, Jolie Chaidez, Emily Rune, and Sonia Sanchez. Faculty members Linda Maxwell, Shoshanna, and Carrie Walpole have choreographed dances, along with Cal Poly Humboldt dance alum Jonny Wisan. Join us and grab some free compost, seeds, and more! Note that everything is first-come, first-served, so be prepared! Please bring something to haul your compost, whether bags or buckets or a truck bed or trailer; it’s totally up to you. We will have some shovels available, but we encourage you to bring your own if you have one. In addition to compost, we will have plants and seeds and we encourage you to bring your own to exchange! 11A This will be the first rescue and recovery class to prep for the 2023 fishing season. I will go over gear, conditions, weather, and how to do a solo and assisted rescue. 5:30-7:30P The Sequoia Park Zoo & Foundation are offering an exclusive first look at the new American black bear and coyote habitat. Guests at the April 15 event will walk through the new exhibit, learn along with Zoo educators and animal care staff, and get inside access to the habitat before the bears call it home. Some of the designers and builders who created the one-of-a-kind habitat will be available to talk about their work. There will be special, bear-themed small bites and desserts by Ecos Café as well as alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages included in the $100 per person ticket. 12:30-2:30P Noah’s Ark Animal Haven & Rescue is holding a free vaccine clinic at the Mateel Community Center Parking Lot in SoHum. This is a donation based vaccine clinic that will include other services for a fee such as microchipping, nail trimming, and deworming. Feel free to text 510-846-3624 to register your animal or ask questions! Registration is not required. We will be providing DHPP vaccines for dogs and FVRCP vaccines for cats. These vaccines protect against the main viruses that attack dogs and cats! We will not have Rabies at this clinic. No cards, cash or check to the rescue for added services. He will also share personal research regarding waves and erosion around Humboldt Bay. Troy has been with the National Weather Service office in Eureka for 25 years where he has led research on wave forecasting models and has worked to improve the region’s readiness for tsunamis. These artisanal farms help form the backbone of the cannabis movement. Plant Habit will be supplying the ambiance with a pop-up market as part of our “Legacy Farmers Showcase” lounge.
