As a little PSA – after running into some of you in and around town, and receiving emails, etc – I’m hearing that some of you haven’t ever clicked through to the other event pages linked below the main list! There are TONS of ongoing events happening weekly, monthly and seasonally. We have classes listed by community, we have kid’s events, and an entire page devoted to Live Music/Theater/Comedy and more. Special Events This Weekend…
Friday 6/2
6/1-6/3 Chili Cook-off, Fireman’s Muster (fireman games), Pony Express Dance, pancake breakfast and Saturday’s parade down Central Avenue that meanders into Pierson Park for an all-day festival.
A two-day festival celebrating the 40th anniversary of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, spread across Humboldt and Del Norte counties. Screenings of the film and special events presented by the Humboldt/ Del Norte Film Commission, along with participating businesses, pop-ups, and other existing events will be promoted to film tourists and fans of all ages. 40 years ago the world was introduced to the Forest Moon of Endor, home of the Ewoks which was filmed exclusively here in Humboldt and Del Norte Counties.
5-7P With Sandra Rodríguez and Laura Johnson. Gather in community to honor our grief and praise through meditation, ritual, intuitive movement, and song. Beginning with meditation, gentle movement, and the invitation to speak anything into the space that you would like witnessed and held in community, we will then transition into an intimate song circle, continuing the opportunity to tend our grief and joy by sharing and joining our voices. Tea will be served. Sliding scale $15-30, pre-registration required.
6-9P A countywide community art event featuring artists and artisan manufacturers of all ages and all media. Visit artists’ studios and experience the creative process, and take home some original art. The event starts on Friday, is happening on Saturdays and Sundays 10A-5P, and is ongoing through 6/11.
7-10P Humboldt Crabs vs. various opponents. Independent, collegiate, wood-bat baseball games on most Tuesdays (7 p.m.), Wednesdays (7 p.m.), Fridays (7 p.m.) and Saturday nights (6:30 p.m.) at the Arcata Ball Park. Sunday games are at 12:30 p.m. Tickets available at Wildberries Marketplace in Arcata or online. No tickets at the gates. Gates open one hour prior to start time. Outside food, empty water containers, blankets, fold up chairs, credit cards are accepted. Ongoing through 8/4.
Saturday 6/3
7A-12N It’s National Learn to Row Day, and Humboldt Bay Rowing Association is opening the boathouse doors to allow community members ages 12 and up to participate in a FREE row on Humboldt Bay. You can sign up at the link in the title. Participants will be given land instruction, then will join experienced rowers in an 8-person rowing shell on the Bay. Pre-registration is required. Seats are limited, so sign up now to reserve your spot. The approximately 2-hour sessions are available from 7 am to noon.

Happening at Trinidad Town Hall.
SECOND ANNUAL CITY OF TRINIDAD COMMUNITY YARD SALE
10A-3P Rain or shine. Host your own sale in front of your residence or team up with other neighbors on your street. Turn your old, or no longer“working in my life”, items into treasures for someone else while earning some extra cash for yourself! This event will help others find reusable items promoting reuse and reducing items that might otherwise go to the landfill.
At various locations, throughout Fortuna. It’s also LEMONADE DAY!
10A-12N The Move to End Hunger walk-a-thon fundraiser will be taking place on Saturday, June 3 at 10 am at the Arcata Marsh. Meet at the parking lot at Klopp Lake to walk 1, 3, or 4.5 miles to raise funds to help Food For People further their mission to end hunger in Humboldt County. Participants are encouraged to collect pledges and can access pledge forms at foodforpeople.org. You can also go at your own pace and log miles throughout the week. 11A Costumed pets parade down Main Street to Firemen’s Park for prizes in many categories.
11A-4P Friends of the Arcata Library will be having a used book sale at the Arcata Library from 11am to 4pm on Saturday June 3rd. We will have all kinds of books in good shape as well as some media and all childrens books are free. Hardbounds are $2, trade size $1 and paperbacks $.50. All proceeds go to the library to buy more books. Please come by and support your local library. We are next to City Hall.
12-7P Fifth annual event featuring local Black and Brown food trucks, Black business vendors, live music, performers, a kid zone with bounce house, a beer garden and more. At The Local Cider Bar in Arcata.
6-9 Art, and a heap of it, plus live music. All around Old Town and Downtown, Eureka. Also, this is an ongoing event, happening every First Friday in Old Town. For TONS MORE ongoing events, scroll down, or click here!
HOUSING INSECURE BOOK RELEASE PARTY
6-9P HCAOG’s REAP grant funded community comic book, collaboration between four artists, copies being given away free at this book release, with performances and readings by local artists. Snacks! Books! Music! Puppets!
6-10P In the mood for prime rib and onion rings? Join us for “A Night at OH’s”! Proceeds from the event will go towards the Salvation Army youth programs. The cost of camp programs has increased dramatically (up to $300 per camp) so we have set a fundraising goal of $10,000 so that more local youth can participate. Currently around 60 kids attend each year. Tickets can be purchased online, by mail, or in person @ Salvation Army M-F 9am-12pm. If you are unable to attend but would still like to help we will happily accept donations.

Sunday 6/4
12N-10P 2 years on, 3 years off (COVID-19), and this year Fairy Festival will return!
We invite you to join us in celebrating the whimsical and fantastic on Sunday, June 4 at the Arcata Plaza. This free event is open from noon to 9pm with two stages of live music, dance, theatre, storytelling and more than followed by a fire show beginning at 9pm! (No dogs are permitted on the Arcata Plaza, please leave your furbabies with a caretaker for the day) We’re delighted to to create a special place for children, families, artists, and all of our community. Bring a little magic in all you do, dress up, and keep believing! Winter Enchantment Stage Schedule (Hosted by Emcee Lady Flavah) is posted on the Facebook page in the link. This year’s festival is made possible by working with Redwood Raks Collective, a non-profit dance space in Arcata’s Creamery District.
COMMUNITY HEALTH TOWN HALL MEETING – EUREKA
1-4:30P This Sunday, the city of Eureka will hold the second of its series of Town Hall meetings on community health, and particularly on homelessness, substance abuse and mental health. These Town Hall meetings are part of Mayor Kim Bergel’s initiative to focus on those hot-button issues. The Town Hall meeting takes place in Eureka City Hall, 531 K St. There will be tacos!

5:30-8:30P RCEA is striving to provide 100% clean and renewable power by 2025, and get as much of that power as possible from local sources by 2030. We are looking for community input on how to get there. Which clean and renewable resources should we maximize in our power portfolio? How important is it that our clean and renewable energy come from local sources? How should we balance the community’s priorities, such as clean energy, local economic development, and low utility rates? Childcare can be provided, but RSVP is required. 9A-3P The City of Fortuna hosts this promotional give-away for Exceptional Quality (EQ) Class A compost for beneficial reuse as a soil amendment to your property or place of residence – continuing while supplies last until 6/9.

SETTLER CANNABIS BY KAITLIN REED
6-8P Kaitlin Reed reads and signs her new book, Settler Cannabis: From Gold Rush to Green Rush in Indigenous Northern California. Settler Cannabis offers a groundbreaking analysis of the environmental consequences of cannabis cultivation that foregrounds Indigenous voices, experiences, and histories. Kaitlin Reed (Yurok/Hupa/Oneida) is assistant professor of Native American studies at Cal Poly Humboldt.
