A welcomed ocean breeze is keeping the smoke from nearby fires moving east, but our friends and family in Willow Creek are facing Humboldt’s fire season head-on. While temps on the coast seem hot, that’s not stopping the litany of events springing up everywhere. Summer is letting up yet, the dog days are here and the beach is calling!

4-8P A self-guided celebration of visual and performing arts, Arts Arcata showcases our dynamic downtown businesses and is a great opportunity to meet local artists and enjoy being downtown at a safe, family friendly year-round community event.
TRINIDAD BAY ART AND MUSIC FESTIVAL
ONGOING this weekend AND next – Returning from national and international tours, world-class musicians perform live concerts in this historic, intimate and extraordinary village, leaving you with lasting impressions. Concurrently, various art shows are up throughout town.
4-8P Grab that pile of clothes you’ve been meaning to donate for a while, your favorite reusable shopping bags, your best friends, and your favorite alcoholic beverages, and come on down to Infuzions on the Arcata Plaza for a once-in-a-lifetime BYOB Clothing Swap this Friday August 12 during Arts Arcata. We will also have live musicians & DJs, a live painter, and a masseuse in-house. Furry friends always welcome too.
8P – A live physical comedy performance inspired by Edward Gorey’s illustrated story of the same name. Created by Dell’Arte alums Kathryn Cesarz and Jesse March. (Running through 8/14)

TRAIL BUILDING AT THE MCKAY COMMUNITY FOREST
9A-12P Volunteer Trail Stewards meet at the McKay Community Forest storage container adjacent to the parking lot to begin work.
12-6P Woofstock Festival is an event where families play games, participate in and win contests, enjoy delicious food, make fun pet crafts, explore community vendors, all while raising necessary funds and awareness for the homeless pets at the Sequoia Humane Society. There will be a Mutt Strut to open the festival. This year Sequoia Humane Society, for the first time ever, will also be hosting a battle of the bands. We are inviting the public to come, eat, play games, drink and listen to local artists and bands.
10A – 6P Vendors, music, food, yoga, sound healing, live painters, poetry, massage chair practitioners and more. Family friendly. No dogs, except service dogs.
1-3P The Ink People Center for the Arts presents the Parade of Dreams, a community art parade scheduled for Aug. 13 along the Eureka Boardwalk. Participants are invited to dress up in costumes that reflect their dreams. Participants will gather between 1-2 p.m. The parade will make a loop, beginning at Madaket Plaza and traveling down the boardwalk, up F Street, down 2nd Street, and back to the Madaket Plaza from C Street. The parade will travel this route 2 times between 2-3 p.m.
2P – Tour the exhibitions and get inspiration, then create colorful and otherworldly landscapes based on of Ingrid Nickelsen’s paintings. All materials supplied. At the Morris Graves Museum in Eureka.
2-4P Have you ever wanted to be that fly on the wall, listening in as old-timers swapped stories about life in the valley long before you arrived? Or maybe you’ve been here a while and enjoy having your own memory jogged. Now’s your chance! Friends of Elk River is pleased to present Stories of the Valley, a panel of long-time Elk River residents recounting events and memories from their decades in the valley. REDWOOD CURTAIN THEATER – THE CHILDREN
8P – A contemporary comic drama set on the seismically active, tsunami-eroded, albeit beautiful, rural coast of Angelsea, England in the environs of a compromised nuclear power plant. Does that sound a bit like our home? While the world outside is dealing with the aftermath of the disaster at the plant, married couple Hazel and Robin, nuclear physicists who worked at the now-failed plant, are visited by a former colleague who upsets the balance of their already precarious existence with both humourous and far-reaching effects.
