Considering the draught patterns we have experienced in the last few years… we are always grateful for the rain, but the weather finally decided to give us a little break. It will be a beautiful weekend to get in some work on your garden and maybe even check out the Humboldt Kite Festival- if you’re looking to awaken your inner child that is!

FRIDAY MAY 20TH
HEADWATERS NATURE WALK
10A-12N, Join BLM Botanist on a native plant walk on the South Side Trail at Headwaters. This hike will start at the Elk River Trailhead and will take you on the south side trail parallel to the Elk River Trail. Its a moderately strenuous 3-mile round trip hike that has some uphill hiking. Headwaters Forest Reserve, End of Elk River Road, 6 miles of US 101 in Eureka, (707) 825-2300
INDEPENDENT LIVING TECHNOLOGIES EXPO
11A-3P, The Expo provides a space for persons with disabilities, their families, and the general public, to learn about resources available to transition to adulthood, live independently, and age with dignity. Adorni Recreation Center, 1011 Waterfront Drive.
RALLY TO DEFEND REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS
5-6:30P, This is an opportunity for our community to come together to defend reproductive rights for all. There will be four smaller rallies leading up to a march on June 10th. Hosted by Cooperation Humboldt in the Arcata Plaza. Bring signs!
EUREKA SYMPHONY, “ALLURING INFLUENCES”
8-10P, Truly an evening like no other, Eureka Symphony highlights two incredible women: Florence Price, the first black female composer to have her work performed by a major orchestra, and Jenny Scheinman, violinist, composer, improviser and band leader. 9A-4P, Help divert waste and raise funds for your local community art center at the same time! All proceeds will go to the Sanctuary general fund. PACIFIC RIM TRAIL NATIVE PLANT HIKE
9:30A-3P, This moderate 2.5-mile hike is an opportunity for participants to learn more about our native plants and how to identify them! Meet at the Sanctuary Forest office at 315 Shelter Cove Road #4 in Whitethorn at 9:30AM. Hike to conclude by 3:00PM. Bring lunch and water, and dress in layers with good shoes. REDWOOD COAST KITE FESTIVAL
10A-5P, Check out this free public event held along the Humboldt Bay waterfront. Along with the Festival, there will be an Artisans Fair on Saturday and Sunday. Wind willing, we will have large inflatable kites, foils, and sleds, as well as 2 and 4 string single and team demonstrations. We also plan to have a community flying area, so you can fly too.
BIKE CELEBRATION!
11A-2P, Bike Month Humboldt has organized a fun Saturday event at the beautiful Jefferson School Community Park. Join a group ride from Arcata to Eureka! Show your support for completing the Humboldt Bay Trail. Meet at the Arcata Plaza in time for a 10am departure. The group ride will use Arcata’s portion of the Humboldt Bay Trail, and continue parallel to the future Humboldt Bay Trail all the way to the Jefferson Center in Eureka (and back!)
SPIRIT MEDICINES SPRING ART CLASS
11A-5P, Make sure you RSVP in advance for this special hands-on cultural experience where you get to learn to make your own Buffalo Skin Drum in this six-hour class. You won’t want to miss this one! Details can be found by clicking the link in the title of this event listing.
FLOW FASHION RUNWAY EVENT (AHS ARTS INSTITUTE)
7-8:30P, Flow is the annual fashion showcase for the Arcata Arts Institute. This night represents the culmination of commitment and dedication for our fashion design students in a chance to showcase their original pieces. There are 10 student designers with over 40 original outfits! This event is in-person and live-streamed. 707-825-2401
A DAY IN THE LIFE: A VARIETY SHOW (EHS)
7P, The EHS Players present an evening of singing, dancing and acting, student-written skits and student-directed acts.

ARCATA VETERANS HALL POOL TOURNAMENT FUNDRAISER
10:30P, Pool tournament held at the Arcata Veterans Memorial Hall hosted by the Fog dogs! All proceeds will go to fixing up the historic Veterans Memorial Hall.

KNEELAND SCHOOL “FUN RUN”
8:30A, Kneeland School Fun Run will have a 10 mile, 5k and 1 mile run.

It took a pandemic to make Humboldt nightlife come to a standstill, and we’re happy to report that all the best local venues for live music, comedy and other special events at bars, breweries and clubs are back and happening.
